What Is FSSAI Registration?

Documents Required for FSSAI Registration
For Basic Registration
- Passport-size photograph of the FBO
- Identity proof (Aadhaar card, voter ID, or PAN card)
- Proof of address of the business premises
- Declaration form
For State and Central Licenses
- Completed Form B application
- Photo identity and address proof of the promoter/proprietor
- Proof of possession of premises (rent agreement/ownership deed)
- Partnership deed / Certificate of Incorporation / MOA-AOA (as applicable)
- List of food products to be manufactured or handled
- Food safety management plan or self-inspection checklist
- Blueprint or layout plan of the processing unit
- List of equipment and machinery
- Source of raw materials and supply chain details
- Water testing report from an accredited laboratory
- NOC from Municipality or Panchayat
- IEC for importers

Step-by-Step FSSAI Application Process
Step 1: Visit the FoSCoS Portal
Go to the FSSAI Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS) portal at foscos.fssai.gov.in. Create an account using your mobile number and email ID.
Step 2: Select the Appropriate License Type
Based on your annual turnover and type of business, select Basic Registration, State License, or Central License.
Step 3: Fill in the Application Form
Complete all required fields including business details, food categories, premises information, and details of food safety supervisor (if applicable for State/Central licenses).
Step 4: Upload Required Documents
Upload all necessary documents in the prescribed format and size. Ensure all documents are clear and current.
Step 5: Pay the Fees
Make the online payment for the chosen license duration (1-5 years). Payment can be made via net banking, debit card, or credit card.
Step 6: Application Review
For Basic Registration, the unique FSSAI registration number is usually generated within 7 working days. For State and Central Licenses, the concerned food safety officer may conduct an inspection before granting the license (typically 30-60 days).
Step 7: Receive FSSAI License
Once approved, the FSSAI license certificate with a 14-digit registration number is issued. This number must be prominently displayed on all food packaging and at the business premises.

Every food product sold in India must display the FSSAI logo and 14-digit license number on its packaging. The label must also include:
- Name and address of the manufacturer/packer
- Net quantity
- Best before/use by date
- List of ingredients
- Nutritional information (for packaged foods)
- Veg/non-veg symbol
Penalties for Operating Without FSSAI License

FSSAI License Renewal
FSSAI licenses must be renewed before expiry. The renewal application should be filed at least 30 days before the license expiry date. Late renewal attracts a penalty of ₹100 per day of delay. The renewal process is similar to the initial application — submit the form, pay fees, and get the renewed license.
